What do you give for a big birthday?

Eighty years deserves more than a card. A family portrait with the children and grandchildren around them is something they'll hang where they see it every day, and nobody has to line up for a new photo.

For a partner's birthday, a couple portrait from your favorite photo together is the quieter choice. For the friend whose dog is family, a pet portrait says you noticed.

And for an anniversary?

Fifty years, one portrait. For a golden or silver anniversary, try a wedding portrait from their wedding-day photo, with their names and the date added.

For a first or a tenth, a house portrait of the home you share, or a favorite place portrait of where you got engaged, marks the years.

How far ahead should I order?

Give yourself a few weeks before the day. The preview comes to you first, and you can ask for changes until it's right, so there's no need to rush the last step.
